Lots of cities in the US have nicknames. The nickname for New York
is Big Apple, the nickname for Chicago is The Windy City, Los Angeles is
The City of Angels, and Portland in Oregon is The City of Roses.

It’s a good idea to tell people what to call you, especially when they
are from different countries. A lot of people don’t know if they’re
hearing your given name or your family name since different countries
do it in different order. Also sometimes foreign names are hard to
pronounce, as you are probably well aware.
So if you can find some kind of way for people to call you what you
would like to be called, this is a good way to tell them.
