Osugi: Chris, I understand that you sometimes help other people
write resumes and cover letters. Is that right?

Chris: Yeah! That’s right.

Osugi: How do you do that?

Chris: Well, usually they first bring me four, or five pages of resume. And I have to be careful telling people that they really need to cut it
down to one page, because they want to show what they are
good at and what they have been doing at work. I think one woman
got kind of angry with me because she cut off one page and
I looked at it and XXXX(then?) I cut off about a half of it and ask her to
cut it down some more.

Osugi: AhaUh-huh. You mean busy people don’t have time to read four
or five pages of resumes.

Chris: Yeah. I think it's very different from here. In the U.S. they just,
at the resume stage, they just want to see who is a possibility
and who is not.

Osugi: Right. So it’s got to be something like an exclusiveexecutive
summary.

Chris: Right, exactly.

私も一度英文履歴書を作ったことがあります。当時英語を習っていたナンシーにアドバイスされたのが、やはり必要なことを手短に、もれなく、一枚に、でした。
またレイアウトも大切で、沢山の履歴書の中から少しでも長く目に留めてもらうためには、
見やすいレイアウトを心がけるのが大切とも言われました。
クリスさんのお話にありましたが履歴書をもっとスリムにするように言われて気分を害する人がいるなんて、考えられないですね。アメリカの会社に自分を強く印象付けたかったら素直にアドバイスを受けるのが得策だと思います。

苦労して作った英文履歴書でしたが、データを保存していたパソコンのクラッシュで消えてしまいました。当時の英語力にはそぐわない立派な履歴書だったのであれだけみるとwatasihは英語の達人だったでしょう。もう一度見たいのですがデータが消えてしまったのが本当に惜しまれます。
